About Biosa
Biosa is a family business originating from Denmark, with a focus on crafting organic products based on the fermentation of beneficial microorganisms.
Biosa was originally founded in 2002 by Erik Nielsen, and since its inception, ecology and sustainability have played a crucial role in all aspects of the business and its activities.
Erik’s son, Ayan Nielsen, founded Biosa New Zealand in 2015, to bring the products to people across New Zealand and Australia.
Our products are produced at our original in-house factory in Denmark, through a gentle fermentation process. Fermentation is one of the oldest ways to preserve products, but the process also has a number of other benefits.
Biosa was founded in 2002 by Erik Nielsen
Erik Nielsen was an ecologist and organic farmer whose search for sustainable technologies in organic agriculture lead him on the trail of the inconspicuous, but indispensable microorganisms.
In 2002 he founded Biosa Danmark and began to share his findings with the world at large, however his passion for working with the fermentation of microorganisms started back in 1994 when he realized the vast array of useful properties, and became convinced of the positive effects.
“I could see that the microorganisms gave new life in an effective and sustainable way, so I decided to investigate and research them. The goal was to develop products with microorganisms, which were both organic, effective and sustainable.

Erik’s passion for microorganisms lives on in his sons, Eli and Ayan Nielsen.
Behind the name
Biosa comes from the Greek "bios," meaning "life," with an added A at the end to represent "agro" - a plot of land where a crop is grown. This name was created in honour of how important we believe the earth and its micro-life is.
The first product Biosa developed was a bio-stimulant for agriculture, the aptly-named Terra Biosa, followed by a specialized product for animals - Animal Biosa.
When our founder Erik turned his focus toward creating a product for humans, he wanted to emphasize the life, bacterial activity and vitality of the formula, thus Vita Biosa was born.
All of our products are created with a great passion for sustainability, and with the goal of harnessing one of the most fundamental essences of the natural cycle, bacteria, in order to create and support the development of new life.
